Ouch
For a number of years ( as an adult), I refused to skate because I was afraid. I actually got back on the ice a few years ago – and really enjoyed myself. The kids and I were going skating about once a month – an-to the point where I did the face plant…. right in the middle of “Y-M-C-A”. I guess I can’t skate and dance do arm motions at the same time.
I had my camera with me – thankfully, not when I fell though. Sorry – no pics of the fall:( I’m sure you all would have enjoyed that! Here are a few other pics of CBC’s Family Skate at The Peak.
EDIT: I am feeling MUCH better today! Still sore – but not out of commission. I had commented on facebook this morning that I only felt old this morning – not decrepit!

Emotional Eating? Me?
My friend Julie posted very transparently about her struggle with food and emotional eating. As I was reading her blog post, I was scarfing down Dove Dark Chocolate with Almonds (drooling just typing those words). Julie’s post made me stop and think about why I was eating them….Not because I’m hungry – as a matter of fact, I’m full! Problem is, I’m sitting here in front of my computer, unshowered, stressing because our school schedule has been virtually non-existent for the last few weeks. But the chocolate in the drawer right next to the computer (gotta move that!) was calling my name LOUDLY! And it made me ‘feel’ better – until I read Julie’s blog.
So what is my solution to my schedule dilemma? They say that it takes 21 days to establish a habit. So, for the next 4 weeks I will post my starting and ending time for school. (OUCH!!) That will be some good accountability for me to get back into a good routine.
As far as the food…. In the past, a friend and I would share our daily food intake log with each other . That was very effective. Who wants to write down that you ate 4 bowls of chili – not because you were hungry, but because it tasted so good?? Or that you ate a piece of pound cake at 8:00 at night because it looked so good. Or that you got up in the middle of the night to eat something that you’ve been craving but you don’t want your family to see you eating. So, for some accountability, I have registered with MyFitnessPal.com. My pounds lost will show up in the sidebar – and I will be sharing my log with a friend. But, I will be starting tomorrow – no way am I posting how many pieces of chocolate I had today!
Now that I’ve sobered you up at the thought of watching what you eat, I thought I would share with you a man’s take on dieting!

Pali-what?
I know it’s not Wordy Wednesday….but I need some brain food. Please send me your favorite palindromes. ( A word, phrase, sentence, or verse that reads the same backward or forward.)
Do you remember when you/your kids first realized that Mom and Dad were the same spelled forward and backward? You/They thought that was SOOOO cool.
Here’s a sentence to get you started! Madam, I’m Adam. (Adam’s first words to Eve?) I’m expecting great things from you!
EDIT: This one’s for Anna B:) (Laynie girl – make sure you show her this!!) Anna: “Did Otto peep?” Otto: “Did Anna?”

Praise the Lord for honest people
So what do I do the first day that I’m feeling halfway good in a week and a half? That’s right- I drag three children shopping (I borrowed one) and LOSE MY CELL PHONE! I can’t lose my cell phone. It has millions of numbers on it. I can’t call ANYONE. I don’t know phone numbers anymore. All I can tell you is that Jim’s work number is 3, his cell number is 2 , my mom’s number is 5 and so on. Everyone else is listed alphabetically by last name. ARGH!
So what does a girl do when she loses her cell phone? (more…)

Pajamas
Why is it that only medical professionals can wear scrubs? Why can’t the rest of us wear them? Aren’t they the most comfortable looking things you’ve ever seen? I started thinking about scrubs the day my dear daughter noticed that “Dr. Shaft (my chiropractor) wasn’t wearing his pajamas today!” I loved it! So did he, by the way:)
I think I’ll start a new fad – scrubs for everyone! You just watch! I’ll start wearing them as my work uniform – just think, no more trying to figure out what to wear that’s comfortable, that I won’t be too hot (yes, even in the winter), that I’m not going to ruin jumping around or sitting on the floor. Then I’ll start wearing them to church. No one will notice during the worship service if I throw a nice jacket on over them. right? In the 2’s and 3’s class, I’ll look even cuter than the nursery workers in their smocks and socks!
Then I’ll start wearing them everyday for school. No, wait, I don’t have to do that! I already wear my jammies most days for school! Ah, the joys of homeschooling!

Hot topic
I guess I really should have thought of this first! Thanks Julie! Jim’s going to be your best friend forever once this posts!
Let me start by saying that my husband Jim does not like to be cold – not at all. Any of you who know him know to what extent he does not like to be cold:) So here’s the story:
Jim was making soft boiled eggs – and heat lover that he is – was standing with his back to the stove talking to me. (more…)
